DISABILITY SUPPORT

In Kenya, people with disabilities face many barriers, prejudice and discrimination. They often find themselves excluded from their communities and some children are hidden away from the outside world and live a life of isolation. People with disabilities are often unable to attend school or work because of their disability and denied opportunities to fulfil their potential. Caregivers of children with disabilities are made to feel ashamed of their children, they are told that it is a curse for past actions, or that it is their fault, and they feel alone and unsupported.

The Potter's House CBO offers regular support group meetings, creating a safe space for caregivers to share experiences, challenges, and triumphs. These gatherings not only provide emotional support but also encourage a sense of community among participants, allowing them to connect with others who understand their situation.

In addition to emotional support, we offer educational workshops tailored for caregivers. These sessions focus on key areas such as play and communication, equipping caregivers with practical strategies to engage with their children effectively and promote development.

By combining emotional support with educational resources, we help caregivers to not only understand their child's needs better but also to advocate for them effectively. Through these activities we aim to create a supportive environment that promotes growth and understanding for both children and their families.
