ABOUT US

The Potter’s House CBO is a small grassroots organisation working directly with families and communities in Njoro, Kenya.

As a Christian organisation we seek to demonstrate hearts of compassion and love that reflect Jesus’ love to the world. Colossians 3 verse 12 tells us, Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. This instruction together with the great commission in Mark 16 v15 – And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation” sets the foundation for our work.

The Potter’s House was set up in Njoro, Kenya as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) in February 2018 after seeing the need for a more holistic approach to helping families who are living in poverty.

Njoro is an agricultural town 18km south west of Nakuru, Kenya. It is situated on the western rim of the Rift Valley. Problems include, high unemployment, lack of education, high rates of drug and alcohol addiction, high levels of poverty and high levels of HIV

    OLD WAYS DON’T WORK!

We believe that the best environment for a child to grow up in is a safe, stable and loving family home. The typical response in Kenya to issues such as, children living on the streets, families living in poverty, parents unable to afford school fees, has been to remove children from the family home and place them in a ‘Children’s home’. From then on children have little or no contact with their family and they lack the one to one parental love and care that every child needs to thrive. This can cause deep psychological trauma to children. The parents are left living in poverty and usually go on to have more children and so the cycle is repeated, with no long-term solution. This approach destroys families and fails both the parent and child and does not solve the real problems.

The Potter’s House provides lasting solutions, addressing the causes of the problems, not just the symptoms. We work with ALL family members, assessing everyone’s needs and equipping parents to become self-sufficient and able to provide a safe, stable and loving home for their family.
